Natural Helpers

​Natural Helpers:

A program which helps friends help friends.  It is based on a simple premise: Within every school, an informal “helping network” already exists. They are not trained professionals, but rather skilled helpers made up of a cross section of students and school adults identified through an anonymous school wide survey.  After the survey is completed members are selected and invited to the training.



Who is a member:

Student in 7th and 8th grade that have previously been inviteded to Natural Helpers and have not been dismissed are returning members.  6th graders will participate in a survey and will be invited to join Natural Helpers based in student and teacher recomendations. 

 

What do we do?

Natural helpers is a living program, changing and adapting itself to meet particular circumstances. The program is designed to meet four basic goals that help young people develop the capability:

• to prevent some of the problems of adolescence

• to intervene effectively with troubled friends

• to choose positive ways to taking care of themselves

• to improve their school and community

This combination of information, skills, and involvement allows the Natural Helpers program to provide a comprehensive approach to helping young people grow up healthy.
